Only 1 week left till the marathon. It is actually 7:35, next week at this time I will be just started the marathon or just about to start. I have a busy day today. Michael has 2 baseball games. Heather wants to do a dress rehersal on how to get to the watching spots for next week and I need to paint the bathroom. So I decided to get up early and run. Plus, I want to try to make this last long run early in the morning like the actual race. Today is only 6 miles. I haven't run the greenway in a while so I decided to run the green way.
Got up at 5:30 and was out of the house by 5:45, to the greenway around 6:00. It was still a bit dark, but not too bad. I went through my normal stretch and listening to "Eye of the Tiger" my theme song. Stretching is a bit harder in the morning than after a full day. I stretched a bit longer than I normally do.
Today I was going to try out the Cytomax drink to see what I think about it for the race. During the marathon they offer Cytomax or water to drink. Cytomax is a sports drink that will help you not be so sore when you finish. Removing some of the latic acid that causes soreness.
I headed off on the greenway. It looked like it was about to rain. A cold front is coming through that will lower the temperature for a while. It has been 85 of so the last week. Hopefully, it will keep the temperature down through the race day.
By the 3rd mile, I remembered I hadn't eaten breakfast yet. I was getting pretty hungry. It reminded me that I need to make sure I eat before running next Saturday.
I tried the Cytomax stuff. It tasted ok, not too bad. But, I felt like it made me more thirsty. I drank a whole water bottle of the Cytomax. Still felt like I was thirsty. During the race I might drink some Cytomax, but I think I am going to mainly drink the water to stay hydradrated.
My pack I run with has a water bottle holder. I decided that probably at the race I will run with the belt, but will rely on the water stops for the water. The water bottle full of water is fairly heavy. It is a not easier to run with the pack without the water. Also, I have made sure I put my cell phone in the pack along with the gummy food for energy. I have gone ahead and run with the belt and the stuff so I can get used to it.
Another goal for today was to focus on not running faster than the pace I want to run the marathon in. My goal is to average a pace of 10:00 minute miles. I really want to make sure I don't start the race too fast.
I spoke to Jermey (my brother). He ran the Walt Disney World Marathon a few years back. The main suggestion he had was to make sure that I don't start out too fast.
Today's run went pretty well. It was a bit humid since a few showers are coming.
6.07 miles run, 1:00:26 total time, 9:57 minute mile pace, 913 calories
Good deal! I averaged a pace near 10:00.
Only 1 week left!
