Today was a busy day. I had to do a little work this morning stopping at the Murfreesboro Electric Department for about an hour. Michael's game was rained out for today. I called the Tracey's to see if they can watch Michael so I could run my 20 mile run. They were avialable. I dropped Michael off.
I decided to not head up to Nashville as I normally would since Heather wasn't here. I decided that I would run down Memorial, over to the square, through the historic district, back up the hill by the office on Church Street, over the train track, over to I-24 and then back the same route.
I drove and dropped off water bottles at each 4 mile markers. While dropping the water bottles off it started raining. It was actually raining really hard. I have to run this run so I can be ready for the Madison Marathon. So I got home after dropping the water bottles off I put my IPOD under a sandwhich bag to keep it dry. It was raining so hard I decided to wear a baseball cap. I now have a "rain hat" to wear. Nothing worse than getting wet and the rain dripping down your face.
Off I went for the 20 mile run. I planned on running a bit longer than 20 miles so I can make it my farthest run.
Last night I ate Speghetti at Fazolis (not the same as I have been eating) and was up last given that Michael had a game last night. (By the way, he did great - I was so proud of him). It was pouring down rain. I was getting drenched. My shoes were getting heavy from the rain. I turned to run down MTCS road through the school and the water was starting to stand on the road pretty good. It was over my shoes. At least it wasn't cold.
I decided to eat the goo candy I had purchased for the Country Music Marathon. Every 5miles I had 3. I could tell a difference. It kept raining hard. I got to the I-24 and I had run 9 miles. I didn't feel comfortable running over the interstate since there really wasn't a sidewalk and it was raining pretty hard. I ran all over near the Knights Inn and Shoney's.
Once I hit 10 miles it was time to turn around and run the course all over again. I felt pretty good during this run. I was not sure what my pace was but I felt that I was running a pretty good pace.
The skies were beginning to look a bit threatening and the clouds were low to the ground. I actually tried to pick up my pace a bit so that I could beat the storm.
At mile 16, I started hearing an alarm go off. What was that? Sounded like a tornado alarm. Was a tornado coming? I was running past Jiffy Lube and the workers were coming out and looking up in the sky. I asked them if the alarm was a tornado alarm. Of course it was. I didn't want to pull a "David Young" and get caught running in the middle of a tornado. They told me it was ok for me to hang out until the storm passed. I stopped my run and went inside and watched the TV. The weather was not good. It looked like the storm was going to be around for quite a while. I waited until the first line of the storm passed.
The storm hit and the doors of the Jimmy Lube flew open. No tornado, but the straight line winds were strong. After the line of the storms passed by, it was time to head into the weather. It was raining so hard you could barely see. The rain wasn't what was bothering me, it was the lightning in the storm. The lightning was not very stong and seemed far away. But, I had no choice I had to get home. Especially since Michael was at the Tracey's.
I headed out and it hit me. The rain was hard and the wind was extremely strong. I am sure many were passing me in their car and thinking I was an absolute idoit. When I left I did not anticipate the storms would be so strong or the rain so hard.
I finally got back to the neighborhood and had about a 1/2 a mile left. I ran up and down our street. But, as an added obsticule our street had about 6 inches of water on the road rushing quickly. I had to pick my feet up high to get through the run. My right calve was really starting to bother me due to the heavy shoes and the running water.
I finally got to the end. Then I ran a bit more to get the longest distance I have ever run in my life.
I showed up at the Tracey's house drenched, dripping with water, but I had run the longest distance in my life in the 2010 Nashville Flood water. I felt good. I was ready to run the marathon. I need to keep this level up for the Madison Marathon.
20.05 miles - 3:22:26 time - 10:05 minute mile pace - 3015 calories
The pace was what I was hoping for. I was pushed a bit given the weather, but I think that is mixed with the heavy clothes and shoes I felt pretty good about it. I am always shocked at the number of calories I burn in these runs. Over 3000 calories - that is amazing! I actually weighed myself and hit 185 pounds. That is 25 pounds lighter than I was when I started this journey at 210 pounds.
After running, I watched Channel 2 news and saw that I-24 flooded with cars floating on the water. Good thing I didn't go run in Nashville. I might have got stuck in Nashville.
