Jan 23 - Long run - 12 miles

Friday night and Saturday morning we had our Men's Leadership Retreat at Church. They had the meal catered. Knowing I was planning to run 12 miles I made sure I at a lot of carbs and "running food". I ate a lot. I bet the other guys wondered why I was eating so much.

Due to the retreat during the day I didn't get a chance to run during the day today as I had hoped. So I decided to run my long run after dark. I left at about 8:00 to run 12 miles. I started out running in the neighborhood. I ran down by Tohamhawk Trail (where the tornado hit) then I ran back up past Segal High School to Thompson Lane. I decided to run down Thompson Lane to River view subdivision. That was a long run. Thompson Lane has a bike lane I was able to run down. I always run against traffic so that cars are not coming up behind me. That way I know what's coming at me. I almost got to the river view subdivision when the mileage was having me turn around to come back. I then ran up Thompson Lane to Seagal Elementary and turned back into our subdivsion. I had about 2 miles left of running around the subdivision. My legs were really getting heavy around mile 10. So I fought there the stiffness for the next 2 miles. I felt I was making pretty good time. It was a great sense of accomplishment when I got home. I ran the last 400 meters as hard as I could. I had almost ran a half marathon in one evening.

12.01 miles, One Hour, 54 minutes and 36 seconds - 9:32 minute mile pace, 1805 cals burned.

I thought I had a pretty good pace, but I didn't think I was running a 9:32 minute pace. I believe the food that was catered helped me run this pace. If I kept this pace up for the marathon I finish the marathon in about 4 hours. That is a bit faster then I was planning. I will take it though. The only thing bad about running a long run at night is I will be going to bed within a few hours after getting done.
